Sikkimising Nepal

Despite opposition from the Nepali people, the Nepali Congress used its majority to pass the anti-constitutional Citizenship Law Reformation Bill in Parliament on 26 July. This bill turns Nepalis into a minority in Nepal. People see this as a step towards the Sikkimisation of Nepal or the making of another Fiji.

On 13 July, the parliament passed the bill without opposition. Two days later, the National Assembly rejected it and sent it back to the House of Representatives. If such an anti-national bill that is hostile to the constitution of the kingdom can be passed, it is being said that should a bill to integrate Nepal into India be proposed tomorrow, it will not come as a surprise.

With the passage of the Citizenship Bill and the Mahakali Treaty by the House of Representatives, there is suspicion that that there is a strong representation of Indian interests in the parliament.
