JICA support for Pokhara
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Nepal government signed an agreement this week on a Masterplan Study for the Waste Water Management in Pokhara. Despite being the second-largest city in tourist hub, the city lacks a proper sewage system, resulting in groundwater contamination.
Phewa and the other lakes are important wetland areas, and need to be protected from pollution. Japan is currently implementing a project to improve water supply in Pokhara with a treatment plan, reservoirs, as well as rehabilitation of water supply network.
