A team from Université de Fribourg led by Claude Hauser is revisiting the 1982 ten-point Kathmandu Declaration for the protection of the Himalayan environment to assess progress in the backdrop of recent flood disasters. The team took part in the General Assembly of the UIAA in Kathmandu last week and visited Pokhara and Khumbu to interview Nepalis. Meanwhile, the government has submitted a list of six more 8,000m peaks for approval by the UIAA, bringing the total in Nepal to 14.
