After intense criticism and ridicule on social networking sites, the government on Tuesday sent a new list of banned ISPs in which the huffingtonpost.com and other sites have been removed.
Also removed is the website of the band, Sex Pistols, although obscure Nepali and international pornographic sites have been added.
"The mystery is why the first list was issued in the first place," said one Internet Service Provider. Most ISPs have blocked the pornographic sites and had ignored the warnings about huffingtonpost and other mainstream portals.
The letter from the Nepal Telecommunication Authority is signed by Assistant Director, Babu Ram Dawadi and is cc-ed to the Nepal Police, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Information and Communications, the Armed Police Force and NTA's legal adviser and chairman.
"This is to inform that NTA has updated the sites list provided last time with added URLs," the letter reads. The new list have the following sites:
