Chairman of the Interim Election Council (IEC) Khil Raj Regmi has directed Tribhuvan University (TU) to revoke the controversial appointment of Dr Sashi Sharma as the Dean of Institute of Medicine (IoM).
The direction has come amid intense pressure on the government to address the demands of Dr Govinda KC whose condition has worsened after eleven days of hunger strike demanding cancellation of Dr Sharma's appointment as Dean and ending political interference at IOM
In a letter to TU vice chancellor Hira Bahadur Maharjan today, IEC chair Regmi said that Dr Sharma’s appointment as Dean of IoM should be rendered null and void keeping in view the deteriorating health condition of Dr KC.
Resignation en-masse
Doctors of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu have announced collective resignation alleging that the government and the TU are not serious enough to address the demands raised by Dr Govinda KC, who is on a hunger-strike.
Around 100 doctors have signed a collective resignation letter on Tuesday at a time when the health situation of Dr KC continues to deteriorate.
"We have jointly signed the resignation letter to facilitate resignation of Institute of Medicines' Dean Dr Sashi Sharma and press for the fulfillment of Dr KC's demands," said Muktiram Shrestha, General Secretary of Nepal Medical Association.
Dr KC is on a hunger strike demanding end of political interference in medical sector and resignation of the newly appointed Dean Dr Sharma.
The Supreme Court on Monday issued an order against the agitating doctors to resume services. However, the doctors did not follow the order saying that they didn't receive such order in writing and that they have not shut down the emergency wards.
