On the week that Burmese democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi is visiting Nepal, the Nepali Times is organising a talk by writer Emma Larkin and photographer Nic Dunlop, who know the country well.

The talk, slideshow and discussion, titled ‘Burmese Days’, will be held at Yala Maya Kendra, Patan Dhoka at 6PM, Friday June 13. All those interested to learn more about Burma’s transition to democracy, it’s past present and future are invited. Entrance is free.

Emma Larkin still uses the pseudonym that allowed her to go in and out of Burma during the junta days. Her 2005 book, Finding George Orwell in Burmais a political travelogue through Burma when it was still closed to explain George Orwell, and especially his Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-four.

Photographer‪ Nic Dunlop has spent two decades photographing Burma under military rule. His black and white images offer an insight into a country that is only now beginning to emerge from decades of dictatorship.

The talk will be moderated by Kunda Dixit.
