Jiwan B.K.20-year-old Jiwan B.K. of Ramechhap has been arrested in connection to the recent acid attacks on two school girls at a tuition centre in Basantapur.
He was arrested from his rented room in Tokha on Friday morning.
B.K. is a previous tenant at the same house where one of the victims, Sangita Magar lives.
According to AIG Bigyan Raj Sharma, BK fell in love with Magar while tutoring her and her brother Santosh and felt humiliated when Magar's family confronted him. BK who initially planned on attacking Magar with a rod, turned to acid after seeing similar crimes on Indian media. He bought the acid from a shop in New Road at Rs. 125.
After the attack, he had gone off to Sikkim to join the Indian army but returned after failing to get in.
Magar's family had suspected BK's involvement in the incident. Sangita's mother Chameli Magar said that BK used to tease Sangita while they were living in the same house. He stopped after she confronted him.
He had attacked Sangita Magar, 16 and Sima Basnet, 15 on 22 February at a tuition center in Basantapur. Magar has suffered severe burns in her face, neck and limbs while Basnet has suffered burns on her face. Both are undergoing treatment at the moment.
Both the survivors are appearing for their SLC exams this year. Magar is taking her help an assistant from Kathmandu Medical College while Basnet is taking her exams herself at Bir Hospital.
