The order for release was given by a joint bench consisting of acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki and Justice Jagdish Sharma Poudel on 2 May at the hearing of the habeas corpus writ filed by Dixit’s wife Shanta Dixit.
Dixit was taken into custody on 22 April on the charges of ‘amassing disproportionate wealth’ as the Chair of Sajha Yatayat, a public transport company.
Dixit's arrest has been condemned by the national and international community and the anti graft body has been criticised for its unconstitutional move.
