The Indian cabinet has granted approval for the purchase of 10,000MW of hydroelectricity from Nepal in the next 10 years. The agreement was proposed during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s Delhi visit in June. While the deal has been hailed as a high point in Nepal-India bilateral relations, experts have said Nepal should prioritise domestic consumption. India has refused to buy power from projects with any Chinese involvement.
