Agitating farmers, backed by the main opposition party, will announce a new round of protests on Sunday. The farmers have a 38-point list of demands which they submitted to the government on 30 November. They demand, among other things, stopping rice imports from India, fixing a support price for food grains and making arrangements to purchase their produce. Other demands include writing off loans given to small farmers and raising the price of sugarcane.
