The hydro sector is facing an undeclared “production holiday” this monsoon. Despite installed capacity reaching 4,300MW and additional 5,700MW under construction, inadequate infrastructure such as a transmission lines is forcing private producers to curtail generation leading to 900MW being spilled every day. The NEA is prioritising its own plants and has asked private projects to reduce output.
