The Cabinet this week directed the Nepal Rastra Bank and the Mint to issue new Rs1 and Rs 2 denomination coins without Nepal’s map depicting the disputed Limpiyadhura region claimed by India. The new coins will be engraved with an image of Nepal’s oldest monastery in Mustang. A news agency report from Kathmandu has been carried widely in the Indian media which said Nepal had ‘backed down’ from the territorial claim.
