More than 200 US-based Newars and guests attended the second convention of the Newah Organisation of America (NOA) on 25 May held in Metropolitan Washington. In its first year of operation, the NOA organised various events like the Nepal Sambat Day and a campaign to aid Nepal Bhasa Academy Cultural Centre. Prominent members of the community stressed the importance of Newar language classes and the importance of creating a repository for Newari arts and crafts before the skills become extinct. The convection concluded with the screening of the Newari movie Paakha, cultural dances and a ?Taste of Newah Cuisine? dinner.
