More on the elevator accident which injured nine Nepali players on Friday:
Among the injured were Debu Thapa, a gold medal hopeful in judo. She won a silver medal in the 10th South Asian Games. She has sustained shoulder injuries and will be unable to participate in the games.
Officials at The Imperial Hotel have said that the elevator, carrying the seven-member team of judo, two weightlifters and an official, was carrying weight beyond capacity.
It’s been reported that it took a half an hour for an ambulance to reach the hotel after the incident.
The athletes who have suffered minor injuries are: Radha Devi Rai, Parsuram Chaudhary, Rajan Joshi and Deepak Krishna Shrestha and weightlifters Gopal Bahadur Shrestha and Gyan Bahadur Shrestha.
