The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) distributed a total of 174,612 Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) till July 22, said joint-secretary at the MoFA Tapash Adhakari.

The MoFA has been distributing MRPs from 41 districts of the country lately. The ministry had started the distribution of the MRPs from December 26, 2010. The government has been issuing ordinary passport, official passport and diplomatic passport.

One has to pay Rs. 5,000 for her passport in the country but 150 US dollars or equivalent amount is needed to receive the MRP from North and South American countries, Australia, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, Israel and Hong Kong.
