Following speculations on why the Chinese premier Wen Jibao has postponed his trip abruptly, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yang Houlan has offered clarification.

Chinese Ambassador Yang Houlan has said Chinese premier Wen Jibao’s Nepal visit was cancelled purely due to China’s internal reasons and denied speculations rife in Nepal that it happened because of “diplomatic failure” of the current government, as dubbed by main opposition Nepali Congress..

In a meeting with Prime Minsiter Baburam Bhattarai at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday morning, the Chinese Ambassador clarified that Chinese premier Wen Jiabao’s postponed his visit to Nepal and Myanmar due to his busy schedule at the end of the fiscal year in China.

He added that the Chinese government chief did not cancel his three-day Nepal visit due to weak security situation in the country. The Chinese envoy further said that new date for the Chinese premier’s Nepal and Myanmar visit will be announced after mutual consultation.

The Chinese PM who was scheduled to arrive for a 3-day visit to Nepal on 20 December with 100-member delegation including 10 ministers had recently postponed the visit without fixing the next date.
