The Himalmedia branch of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists has demanded action against those responsible for damaging the organisation's hoarding board in Sundhara, Kathmandu, on Friday.
The centrally located hoarding board displayed the cover story for last week's Himal Khabarpatrika, which was an investigative report on criminals apprehended by the police. Issuing a statement on Sunday, the Himalmedia branch termed the incident an attack on the Nepali media.
“This act of tearing down a hoarding board displaying the contents of a newspaper to inform the public is not only condemnable it is also a continuation of attacks on the Nepali press,” the statement read, adding that any attempt to obstruct the display of published materials in public places is against the law. The statement also called on the authorities to investigate in order to identify those involved, and demanded an end to all attacks on the free press.
