Nearly six months after it was disrupted by a massive landslide, Bhotekoshi Power Project has resumed electricity generation from Wednesday.

Although the project started trial production of electricity from last Saturday, it was fed to the central transmission line of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) only on Wednesday.

The 45 MW-project is, however, generating only 18 MW of electricity as water level is now very low in Bhote Koshi, according to Narendra Prajapati, CEO of Bhotekoshi Power Company Pvt. Ltd.

Electricity generation from Bhote Koshi was halted by a landslide that killed more than 150 people, buried dozens of houses and damaged properties worth millions of rupees in Jure village of Sindhupalchok district on 2 August 2014.

Reconstruction of the damaged project was delayed after local political parties demanded 10-25 percentage of share from the company.

CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist), Rashtriya Prajatantra Party and CPN-Maoist had demanded 25 per cent of share to local people while NC sought at least 10 per cent share.

Political parties had created hurdles in repairing pylons, exerting pressure on the company to give in to their demand.

According to National News Agency, reconstruction of the project started only on December 25 after the company and political parties agreed on five per share for local people.

Babin Pradhan, manager of the company, said reconstruction of the damaged project cost around Rs 80 million.
