The major political parties have agreed to amend the schedule for constitution writing and extend the timeline to forge a consensus on all the issues except state restructuring to 29 January.
The agreement reached among the parties was endorsed by the Constitutional Committee on Wednesday. The Constituional Committee was to finalise all the issues by Wednesday.
However, the deadline for promulgation of the new Constitution does not change and continues to remain 28 May 2012.
29 January is also the deadline for the State Restructuring Commission to present its final report.
However, small parties and some independent CA members have objected to decision to review the CA calendar. The major party leaders have requested all to not have any suspicions over the latest amendment, and expressed the commitment to move ahead accordingly.
Speaking after a meeting of the senior leaders of the major parties today, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai expressed the commitment to enforce the peace process and to develop an atmosphere conducive to the same.
Likewise, Maoist Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' said the political parties have begun serious deliberations over the issues of peace and constitution, and expressed the confidence that an agreement would be reached before the state restructuring commission comes up with its report.
Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader, Ram Chandra Paudel said the new agreement would not have an impact on the time table of constitution making.
