Chairman of National People's Front Chitra Bahadur K.C. on Friday presented signatures collected from 413 CA members to CA Chair Subhas Nembang demanding the CA follow due process for a timely statute.
Receiving the signatures Nembang said consensus couldn’t be reached because of the parties' unwillingness to negotiate a deal. "But, we will not wait any longer," he added.
The document was signed by members from 10 parties including those of ruling NC and UML. Although CA members of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party refrained from signing, campaign organiser Prakash Jwala of CPN-UML says they are willing to extend their support if the CA goes into process.
The CA is convening on Friday amidst a deadlock between the ruling parties NC and UML and the opposing UCPN-Maoist led 30-party alliance. The security in and around the Constituent Assembly has been beefed up for Friday's meeting. The CA Chair has also called an unofficial meeting with the top party leaders at 1PM.
While ruling parties NC and UML are looking to pass a new constitution on the two-third majority basis, the opposition party UCPN-Maoist has decided to join forces with CPN-Maoist and Padma Ratna Tuladhar led indigenous movement in a bid to fortify its position.
