The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) released its annual report for the fiscal year 2010/11 on Thursday.

A total of some 6,145 cases were filed at the state anti-graft body during this period.The CIAA had resettled some 3,904 cases related to corruption during the year.

Making public the 21st annual report of the Commission amidst a program, Commission Secretary Bhagawati Prasad Kafle said chiefs of the government offices themselves should be more responsible for controlling corruption in the country.

Admitting that the Commission has not been able to perform as per the people's expectation, Kafle said some technical difficulties are behind such problem.

According to the report, the Commission had filed a case of corruption and misuse of authority against people's representatives, high- ranking incumbent and retired Nepal Police officers, including lawmakers Bishwanath Shah, Gayatri Shah, DB Karki and former Inspector General of Police Om Bikram Rana.

Also speaking at the programme, Commission spokesperson and Joint -Secretary Ishwari Prasad Poudel said that lack of sufficient human resources at the Commission has caused difficulty in the performance of the commission.

Prior to the formal release, the 373-pages report was submitted to President Ram Baran Yadav.
