A meeting of the 27 political parties of the Constituent Assembly (CA) today endorsed the progress made in the high-level political task force about the provisions related to citizenship.
The parties agreed to move ahead by incorporating opinions expressed by some political parties.
An agreement was reached to review the proposals made by the task force for naturalised citizenship to a foreigner woman married to a Nepali citizen man and to a foreigner man married to a Nepali citizen woman.
Talking to media after the meeting, CPN-UML President Jhalanath Khanal said the proposal related to citizenship as made by the task force was extensively discussed and it was agreed to take the issue of gender equality seriously by considering the recommendation of women.
At the meeting the parties also discussed about issuing a separate identity card to a person living in Nepal since a long time but had not acquired Nepali citizenship.
