COAS Gen Rana begins term

General Gaurab SJB Rana has assumed office of the Chief of Army Staff after taking the oath of service and secrecy at Shital Niwas on Sunday.

In a formal function attended by the Vice President, Prime Minister and other ministers, President Ram Baran Yadav, who is also the Supreme Commander in Chief of the Nepal Army, conferred upon General Rana the official insignia of the COAS.

General Rana was promoted to the position of second-in-line of the NA by the government on July 9 to replace General Chhatraman Singh Gurung whose retirement came into effect on Sunday.
