Nepal Army officer Colonel Kumar Lama has been remanded in custody after appearing at Westminster Magistrates court charged with two counts of torture on Saturday. The court has refused to release Lama on bail before he appears at the Old Bailey in London on 24 January. Colonel Lama was taken into custody by the British police on Thursday over allegations of committing war crimes and human rights abuse during the conflict.

Meanwhile Nepali Congress issued a statement on Friday expressing objection over Lama’s arrest in UK.
