The talks between major political parties has ended inconclusively after NC and UML led opposition group turned down UCPN-M’s request to bring the budget in consensus. The meeting was held in Singha Durbar on Monday afternoon and was attended by top leaders of the major parties.

In the meeting, Maoist Chairman repeated his proposal of bringing the budget in consensus and following it up with talks for a package deal on government change and outstanding issues on constitution drafting. But the opposition was unrelenting and insisted that there could be no consensus on budget unless Baburam Bhattarai led government stepped down immediately.

NC leader Sushil Koirala has stated that the opposition will go ahead with its planned street agitation and force the government out of power from the streets. The government has meanwhile decided to forward the budget ordinance to the President’s office. The opposition leaders have already met President Ram Baran Yadav last week and requested him not to approve the budget.
