The Weather Forecasting Division of Nepal has said the impact of the Phailin cyclone that started from the Bay of Bengal is being seen in Nepal as well.

The impact has caused heavy rains in the eastern and mid-Terai region of Nepal and sporadic rains in Kathmandu valley, said senior weather expert Bidyaratna Shakya. The impact will remain in Nepal for three to four days, he added.

The massive storm packing winds of about 200km/h (125mph), is the strongest cyclone India has seen in years. Thousands have been evacuated from the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa that have large coastal populations. According to a BBC report, Indian disaster management authority official said 14 people had died, 13 of them in Orissa.
