It is learnt that the main opposition UCPN (M) is putting pressure on the ruling NC-UML parties to reappoint Kayo Devi Yami as Chair of Public Service Commission (PSC).
Kayo Devi's tenure has already expired but the UCPN (M) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal wants the NC and the UML to agree for her second term as the PSC Chair.
Kayo Devi is elder sister of UCPN (M) leader Hisila Yami, who happens to be wife of UCPN (M) Vice Chair Baburam Bhattarai.
Of late, Bhattarai seems to be siding with Dahal. Last week when the UCPN (M) recommended Lhar Kyal Lama, a controversial floor-crosser, as a CA member, Bhattarai's close aides like Debendra Poudel and Prabhu Sah publicly criticized Dahal's decision. But, Bhattarai stood by Dahal.
Dahal is probably returning the favor to Bhattarai by lobbying for Kayo Devi's second term.
Dahal had proposed Kayo Devi's name as PSC Chair in a meeting of Constitutional Council last week.
According to the NC's Chief Whip Chin Kaji Shrestha, the NC and the UML had prepared a list of their candidates to be appointed in vacant posts of constitutional bodies like the PSC. But, Dahal did not agree with the list prepared by the NC and the UML and proposed Kayo Devi's name for the second consecutive term in the PSC.
"The meeting failed to recommend names for vacant posts of constitutional bodies due to Dahal's proposal," Shrestha told Nepali Times. "The NC and the UML are not ready to reappoint her (Kayo Devi)."
Earlier, Kayo Devi was appointed as the PSC chair by the UCPN (M)-led government in 2009.
The UCPN (M) is leading an alliance of 30 opposition parties for a street movement to create pressure on the NC- UML to agree on identity based federalism.
But, even as they skip CA meetings and prepare for what they say would be decisive movement, UCPN (M) leaders are not shying away from recommending their near ones for public posts.
