A meeting of the High Level Taskforce held today discussed fundamental issues of the new constitution but failed to reach any agreement.
During the meeting, the Maoists maintained that the party would not accept plurality at any cost, while the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML argued that society could be developed only through plurality.
The name of the new constitution was also a matter of disagreement at the meeting. The Maoists stuck to a ‘People's Federal Republic Constitution’, while the other parties pitched for a ‘Federal Republic Constitution’.
Other issues discussed included fundamental rights, provisions for a land ownership ceiling, and compulsory military training.
The next taskforce meeting is scheduled for Friday.
