Nagarik, August 16

Having created fraudulent websites, various individuals and organisations have begun to ask for funds in the name of Nepal Children’s Organisation (NCO). Dozens of websites and Facebook pages now ask for money, saying it is needed to help earthquake-affected children who are taking shelter at Bal Mandir, which is under the NCO.

Madan Kumar Chauhan of NCO says that fraud is rampant and that these websites even have proposal papers on them. “We have found Youtube videos, Facebook pages and other websites asking for funds in our name. None of them has taken our permission,” he said.

Some have asked for funds, uploading videos that show the destruction of Bal Mandir and the worrying state of the children. Others give Bal Mandir’s contact number as their own.

Fraudulent websites have attracted donors by using the organisation’s logo and showing photos and videos of destroyed buildings without any permission from the organisation. The director of NCO, Chiranjibi Bhandari, says that these activities are illegal and unacceptable.

After its building came down in the 25 April earthquake, the NCO have moved the children’s hostel to an adjacent building.
