No one was killed in the fire that started in Sector D 3, but 60-year-old Renuka Dahal is being treated at Amda Hostapila for smoke inhalation. Some 16 bamboo huts were destroyed, and 21 other huts were demolished to stop the fire from spreading. A refugee school was also reduced to ashes. It took the Damak fire engines 4 hours to bring the fire under control.

The refugees, many of them waiting for third country resettlement, are living with friends and relatives for the time being. The fire is said to have started from candles being lit for the Diwali festival.
