US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alyssa Ayres met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. Ayres is on her first visit to Nepal.
During the meeting, the two discussed issues of bilateral relations and cooperation between Nepal and the US. They talked about Nepal’s peace process and constitution drafting, and Ayres said that the US would support Nepal in both areas and increase assistance for Nepal’s development.
She also assured Koirala that the US would continue to welcome Bhutanese refugees as part of the third country resettlement program.
US Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi, who was present at the meeting, said that both countries could work together in the areas of trade, development and environment.
During her four-day visit, Ayres is scheduled to meet political leaders, government officials, environmental activists and businesspeople.
