The District Court, Kathmandu, has remanded former chairman of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), Ramagya Prasad Chaturvedi to police custody, enforcing the Supreme Court verdict.
The apex court on last Wednesday, acting upon a case of corruption filed by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against NAC former chairman Chaturvedi, decided to recover Rs 13.924 million from him including a fine of the same amount he misappropriated. He will also spend 18 months in prison.
He was convicted of amassing property through illegal means while he was in the key post in NAC and other government bodies.
According to Joint Secretary at the District Court, Punaram Khanal, 20 per cent of the fine amount and jail term slapped on Chaturvedi has been deducted since he presented himself before the court within the 60 days of the SC decision.
Chaturvedi has already served a jail term of four months and five days. Now, he has to serve jail term of 11 months and six days. He deposited the money that he was fined for corruption on Wednesday.
Similarly, a process will be initiated soon to recover the property owned by Chaturvedi the source for which have not been disclosed, said Joint Secretary Khanal.
