The protest in Gaur led by 30-party alliance has been called off on Thursday. The 30-party alliance led by UCPN (Maoist) withdrew the protest after the central party leaders assured to take up the demands of the protestors at the central level.
The protest was called off at a program organised to mourn the death of Ram Ashish Thakur. Ram Ashish Thakur was killed after an Armed Police Force (APF) van accidentally hit him during a protest for the reversal of the government's decision to extend the branches of the District Land Revenue Office and the Survey Office in Chandranigahpur.
The 30-party alliance had taken over the protest after the local chapter of Chamber of Commerce withdrew their protest on Tuesday. The chamber called off the protest after reaching an agreement with the local administration at midnight on Monday.
The agitation that started in mid-March against the government's decision turned violent after Thakur's death six days ago. Protestors have been demanding a martyr's status for Thakur along with the reversal of the government's decision.
The administration had on Monday agreed to recommend the government to declare Thakur a martyr provide compensation to the family of the deceased, a government job to a family member, form a probe committee to investigate the incident and reversal of the decision to extend administrative services to Chandranigahpur.
