After a meeting on Wednesday, the High Level Political Mechanism announced it can’t fulfil the CPN-M’s demands, saying the party put forward the 18 points with the intention to disrupt elections.

On Tuesday the CPN-M and 33 other parties had submitted a list to HLPC, demanding them to scrap the government, cancel the 11-point understanding, and postpone the elections until a national unity government, which would later conduct elections, was formed through all-party round-table talks.

NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel spoke to journalists after the meeting and said the 11-point understanding will not be scrapped. UCPN-M leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said they couldn’t even think of turning back on the progress made without everyone agreeing to it.

The HLPC also decided to meet other opposition parties on Thursday morning.
