Dr Govinda KC has ended his hunger strike on the eighth day after the government officials agreed to his demands on Saturday.
Dr KC, who had been demanding end of politic al interference in medical sector, broke the strike in the presence of Chief Secretary of Government of Nepal, Lilamani Poudel and Chairperson of Nepal Medical Association, Dr Anjani Kumar Jha.
In the agreement signed between the two sides, it has been agreed that the issue of providing affiliation to four medical colleges by the Tribhuvan University (TU) will be brought under the probe of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
Likewise, the TU Assembly will be summoned in 21 days to make TU Teaching Hospital an autonomous body. Dr KC’s demand of appointing Dean at the Institute of Medicines (IOM) on seniority basis has already been fulfilled with the appointment of Dr Rakesh Kumar Srivastav.
On the issue of dismissing the Vice Chancellors and other officials of TU, the government told Dr KC that this demand can’t be met, as a lot of political issues are yet to be settled at the time of forming a new government.
