President Ram Baran Yadav has summoned a session of the Legislature-Parliament at 1.00pm on 19 December, Sunday at the International Convention Centre, New Baneswor.

"The session has been called as per Article 51 (3) of the Interim Constitution of Nepal and in response to a petition made by 187 members of the Legislature-Parliament to call a session of the Legislature-Parliament but without entering into the subject matters mentioned in the petition," the Office of the President has said.

The UCPN (Maoist), the CPN (Unified), CPN (ML-Socialist), Nepali Janata Dal, Nepa Rastriya Party and Sarita Giri-led Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi) had made a submission to the President last Sunday, demanding a special session of the Parliament.

The Legislature-Parliament Secretariat has requested all members of the Constituent Assembly to be present at the session. The Secretariat has requested the Chief District Officers of all districts to inform the CA members from the districts about the House session.

Earlier in the day, caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had called a meeting of 17 political parties that had not signed the petition for special session of the Legislature-Parliament. But the meeting had ended without any decision because all the parties held conflicting opinions. PM Nepal said that he was ready to summon the regular session of the parliament on consensus basis before the petition was submitted.
