The Government of India has simplified the procedure of transit for relief supplies entering Nepal. This decision was made by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) and the Indian Ministry of Finance, after international relief organisations and foreign governments asked the Government of India to facilitate flow of supplies for the people affected by the earthquake.
This ‘Simplified Transit Procedure’ will ease transit of relief cargo to Nepal supplied by foreign governments and agencies authorised by the Government of Nepal or their embassy in India. The new formula cancels the bond, security or bank guarantee initially requested for transit cargo to Nepal.
In addition to the Kolkata / Haldia ports as per in the India-Nepal Treaty of Transit, relief cargos to Nepal will be allowed to transit through airports at Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna, Kolkata, and Bagdogara. Similarly, containers can enter Nepal from the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Delhi and Kanpur.
These additional services have been made to facilitate easy flowing traffic of supplies urgently needed by the people affected by the earthquake.
