A team led by Ramnanda Yadav, Coordinator of the People's Embankment Program under the Department of Water-induced Disaster Prevention of the Ministry of Irrigation, inspected the damages caused by the Tinau river in Butwal on Saturday.

After taking note of the damage caused, Yadav suggested that a special program should be implemented in order to resolve the problem of inundation, erosion, encroachment of land and floods caused by the Tinau river.

Last week, floods had swept away hundreds of meters of embankment constructed only a year ago at Buddhanagar in Butwal-13. As a result, thousands of households in more than a dozen settlements including Buddhanagar, Tinpate, Pabitranagar, Pragatinagar, Simanagar are now under risk of falling victim to the floods.

As an immediate measure, river diversion and channelisation have been adopted.
