Political leaders, assisting the taskforce formed to finalise the contentious issues in the constitution drafting, held a meeting on Friday to discussed the structure of the judiciary in the new constitution.

The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the judicial system adopted by other countries and past experiences of the country on judiciary.., said Minister for Law, Prem Bahadur Singh.

"All participants were one on the independent and capable judiciary", said Prem Bahadur Singh, Minister of Law. He added that there was no dispute on providing the Supreme Court the right to interpret the constitution and to judicial review.

Singh said that the meeting also discussed on the provisions to be incorporated in the constitution so as to make the role of the constitutional council and judicial council more effective.

The meeting concluded in favour of such a constitution that bars legislature, executive and judiciary from interfering on each other's jurisdiction by following the principle of separation of power.
