The Nepal Army cleared its land minefield located at Phulchoki, Lalitpur, on Tuesday, marking the conclusion of the demining works. The NA had laid landmines in 53 locations during the insurgency and had begun clearing them as part of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in 2006.
Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, senior government officials and representatives of United Nations Mine Action Team (UNMAT) were present at Phulchoki.
With the clearance of the Phulchoki minefield, Nepal has become the second country after China to be landmine-free in Asia.
