Kathmandu – People across the country are protesting against the strikes separately enforced by the UCPN (Maoist)-led 30-party alliance and the CPN-Maoist on Tuesday.

Youths in the capital have organised a rally in Maitighar and Baneswor to protest the strike. They chanted slogans like 'No Bandh in Nepal' and 'If you love the country, show it through your actions'.  The participants of the rally, which started from Maitighar, said that they will continue to protest until the parties withdraw their strikes.

Similarly, entrepreneurs and industrialists in various parts of the country have retaliated against the shutdown. The strike enforcers agreed to end the shutdown following protest from the local people and industrialists. They reached an agreement considering the Tharu community's New Year Maghi celebrations.

Likewise, an agreement has been reached to end the strike in Itahari as well. The enforcers agreed to end the strike after 3pm on insistence from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, local traders and locals of the area.

Meanwhile in the capital, the agitators have attacked one of the Sajha buses plying on Maharajgunj-Lagankhel route. They have also stopped other Sajha buses in Pulchowk and other areas.  While other general and private vehicles opted to stay off the road, Sajha continued its service to facilitate the commuters. Protestors have also vandalised three vehicles in Baneswor and one in Koteswor.

Police have arrested the secretary general of the Federal Socialist Party Ajamber Rai Kangbang along with 43 others from Maharajgunj and eight students of Trichandra Campus for enforcing the shutdown.  Police have been mobilised in different areas to prevent riots.
