The talks held between the Maoists and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UMDF) on matters relating to the formation of the new government ended positively, according to the leaders of both parties.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, Maoist Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai said the bilateral talks ended in a positive note and claimed that the formation of the national consensus government would take place by 22 August, the deadline set by the President for the parties to form a national unity government.

"Many issues raised by the Front and our party are of similar nature as both parties had fought against the long conventional ruling system in the country", he said.

According to Bhattarai, the meeting focused on the package deal between the two sides regarding the issues related to the ongoing peace process and constitution drafting.

Chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic ), one of the member parties of the Front, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar said the Front was positive in forming the government of the national consensus under Maoist leadership.

The meeting also agreed to hold further discussions and consultations to this effect, he added.

The MJF (Democratic) Chairman further claimed that the government formed with the participation of the three major parties and the Front would automatically be a 'government of national consensus' and such government would be able to conclude the peace process and the constitution drafting process.

Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal , Vice Chairman Bhattarai, Secretaries CP Gajurel and Posta Bahadur Bogati were among those present in the talks while MJF (Democratic) Chairman Gachchhadar, MJF (Republican) Chairman Jay Prakash Prasad Gupta, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur, TMDP Nepal Chairman Mahendra Raya Yadav and Chairman of Sadbhawana Party, Rajendra Mahato represented the UMDF.
