An unknown gang vandalised the office of the Naya Patrika, a daily paper based at Kamal Pokhari, Kathmandu on Sunday.

The vandalism is reportedly to have taken place over a news report carried by the daily and published under the title- 'Three held with swords'.

A gang of nine , who came in five motorcycles, barged into the office and snapped telephone wire, damaged the editors' desk, furniture and window panes, said Metropolitan Police Sector, Kamal Pokhari.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the act of vandalism that took place at the Naya Patrika 's office.

The culprits should be brought to book at the earliest, the FNJ said, demanding the government provide compensation to the damage incurred by the daily. Various other media associations including Press Chautari and Nepal Press Union have also condemned the incident.

Meanwhile, FNJ Secretary at Naya Patrika, Sudip Kumar Dhungana has claimed that the vandalism was carried out by a team led by Vice-Chairperson of Nepal Students’ Union Unit at Pashupati Multiple Campus, Rajan Shrestha and Secretary Raj Kumar Sigdel.
