The Central Bureau of Statistics Household Survey Section released the Nepal Life Standard Survey-III on Monday. The survey was conducted among 5,988 households from five development regions of the country between March 2010 to March 2011.
According to the Nepal Life Standard Survey-III, the contribution to the total income from the agriculture sectors has declined from 61 to 28 per cent in the past 15 years while the non-agro sectors contribution rose to 37 from 22 per cent.
Various other sources including remittance almost doubled, which was at 16 per cent before 15 years.
There were only 23 per cent families in total receiving remittance in 1995/1996, which grew to 56 per cent in 2010/2011. While the average remittance of each household rose to Rs 80,436 from Rs 15,160 in this period.
During the fifteen years, the average per capita income rose to Rs 41,000 from Rs 7,690.
The Director General of the CBS, Uttam Narayan Malla said the consumption rate of the people during this 15-year period has significantly increased in a way or other.
The Survey has revealed that the use of electricity, iodized salt, immunization, contraceptives, school enrollment, visit to commercial bank, main market, access to roadway, have seen significant improvement.
The survey further reveals that 79 per cent people migrate due to family reasons while seven per cent shift their habitation for better life style and four per cent seeking jobs.
