Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has agreed to form a new governing body for cricket in Nepal, replacing the one that was suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In a meeting with a three-member delegation of the ICC in Kathmandu on Sunday, Dahal agreed to form a board that will replace the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). However, the name and size of the board are yet to be determined.
David Richardson, who led the ICC delegation to Nepal, promised resumption of support to Nepali cricket after the setting up the new governing body for cricket, a sport that is rapidly growing popular in Nepal.
The ICC had suspended the CAN in April questioning its legitimacy after it split into factions. The suspension of the CAN deprived Nepal of financial support from cricket's world governing body.
The ICC had suspended the CAN on the grounds of breach of the article 2.9 of its Articles of Association, which prohibits government interference in cricket bodies. When PM Dahal urged the ICC delegation to revoke suspension of the CAN, he was advised to form a new body to solve the problem.
