The meeting between the major parties and the President to break the impasse over the budget has failed yet again. On Sunday, the leaders of NC, UML,the Maoists and the Madhesi Morcha met to discuss on UCPN-M Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s alternative proposals in which he requested the opposition to either agree on giving continuity to the budget brought
out by Jhala Nath government or accept the one drafted by the planning commission earlier. “If both efforts fail, we told the president that we will forward the budget our government has prepared and requested him to take decision in the best interest of the people and as per the spirit of the constitution.”, said Dahal emerging from the meeting.
However, the opposition have refused all three proposals insisting that the Prime Minister Bhattarai resign first. Meanwhile, President Yadav has been urging the parties to agree on the budget at the earliest. The government has been unable to bring out the budget due to opposition’s strong protest and President’s caution that it would be ‘unwise’ of the government to unilaterally bring out the budget.
The meeting was held in President’s office at Shital Niwas and was attended by Dahal along with Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal and Coordinator of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha Bijay Kumar Gachhadar .
