A meeting of the high-level political committee (HLPC) led by four major political parties ended inconclusively on Saturday.

The meeting of the cross-party mechanism formed to resolve contentious political issues was called to hold discussion on the demand of the UCPN (Maoist) party to probe the possibility of vote rigging  during the 19 November Constituent Assembly election.

The HLPC meet concluded agreeing to reconvene at 4 pm on Sunday.

The meeting  failed to arrive at any conclusion on the matter of election fraud and vote rigging as the UCPN (Maoist) and other dissatisfied parties, which performed miserably in the election, have been pressing for. The parties have demanded the formation of a commission to investigate into the alleged charges of vote rigging. Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) are in favour of convening the second Constituent Assembly at the earliest to resolve all outstanding issues including the allegation of election fraud.

The dissatisfied political parties including UCPN (Maoist) and Upendra Yadav-led MJF-N, which failed to register significant number of votes in the 19 November polls, have said that they will not send the list of candidates representing them under the proportional category until such a commission is formed.
