UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs B. Lynn Pascoe held several high-level meetings after arriving in Kathmandu Friday morning for a two-day visit.

Pascoe met President Ram Baran Yadav, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijaya Kumar Gachhadhar and Chairman of the Unified CPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal today.

His talks revolved around the peace process, UNMIN’s exit and the role of the United Nations after UNMIN leaves. Pascoe expressed willingness to support Nepal’s peace process even after UNMIN's tenure ends.

While talking to Dahal, Pascoe expressed concerns about the issues of army integration and constitution writing. Dahal is said to have assured Pascoe of his party’s commitment in both areas.

Pascoe is in Nepal for the second time since the UN Security Council decided in September to extend UNMIN’s tenure for the final time, until 15 January 2011.
