With the rift between the hard-line faction of the Maoists and the establishment becoming more apparent, Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal is in discussion with some influential leaders of the party in a bid to resolve the differences.

Chairman Dahal held talks with party standing committee member Krishna Bahadur Mahara to find a possible way regarding the party unity, according to Dahal's aide Shiva Khakurel. Earlier, chairman Dahal had given responsibilities to Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and leader Mahara to find the possible ways for party unity.

On Friday, Chairman Dahal had told at the party meeting that he was even ready to quit the post of Chairman for the party unity. A majority of the Maoist leaders in the central committee urged the party chairman and other senior leaders to take initiative for party unity.

Meanwhile, the Baidya faction is said to be preparing to split and register a new party.
