The results of the ranking of the minimum conditions and performance of local bodies for fiscal year 2010/2011 was made public at a program organised by the Local Bodies Financial Commission Secretariat on Wednesday.
Minister for Local Development Urmila Aryal has said the Ministry should find out the reasons as to why the local bodies as the Metropolitan City, the municipalities, DDCs and VDCs have been flunking in the evaluation every time. She urged the Ministry of Local Development to find out the reasons why cities like Kathmandu,Pokhara and Bharatpur which are comparatively sound in terms of resources fail in the ranking again and again.
As per the performance evaluation results of the local bodies, 51 municipalities have fulfilled the minimum conditions while seven have not. The three municipalities ranked best in the evaluation are Ghorahi, Hetaunda and Waling.
Among the Village Development Committees (VDCs), out of the 3,733 VDCs included in the evaluation 3344 have fulfilled the minimum conditions while 389 are unsuccessful VDCs.
Similarly, among the District Development Committees (DDCs) included in the evaluation, 61 have met the minimum conditions and 14 have not. The Dolakha DDC, the Makwanpur DDC and the Dhankuta DDC are the top three DDCs in the country in the ranking.
